The Sacred Tree of Wisdom

The Web of Knowledge and Tribal Gathering
Join us for this journey to the Tree of Wisdom, which in Celtic tradition flowers with leaves, blossoms and nuts at once, a potent symbol of the many forms of sacred knowledge and eternal blessings available to us at all times from the World of Spirit. We will honour the Sacred Three - The Gods, the Ancestors, and the Land - and begin to 'weave the web' of knowledge and community in sacred circle.

The sacred place - which exists at the center of the cosmos - was known as a nemeton - and includes the tree, the mound and the well of wisdom. By journeying to the Gods and Spirits who tend and guard this place, we begin to create a cycle of reciprocity in which the sacred realms bless us with wisdom, well-being, skill and right path.

Connecting with Spirit Teachers and guides - druids, bards, seers, priestesses and ancestral teachers - we gain access to this Source. As we eat the sacred hazelnuts of wisdom, we are shown our path in this ancient tradition. In a deeply connected state, we receive guidance, visions and poetic inspiration (awen) which we are to bring forth into physical form and into our daily lives.

In this workshop, students will learn daily practices for deep connection with Spirit, learn about the Bile or World Tree and receive teachings brought in directly from the spirit of an oak tree, and learn an Old Irish prayer which has not been spoken for over a thousand years.

We will also explore types of divine wisdom and connect with the traditional roles through which this wisdom was brought into the tribe. Students will have a chance to meet others on the path - including other students in the correspondence course - and take first steps on the path of apprenticeship in sacred circle, if that is right path.

The course fee is $135 which may be paid through PayPal, click the PayPal button at the top of this page.

Orange is a small rural town located just off of Route Two. It is just about an hour from Amherst / Northampton, half an hour from Keene NH and Greenfield MA, one hour and 15 min. from Cambridge / Alewife Station, about 1 and a half hours from Boston, Hartford and Springfield.

Nearby are the Quabbin Reservoir, Erving State Forest and Laurel Lake, Wendell State Forest, Bear's Den, Doane's Falls, The French King Bridge, Spirit Falls and Tully Lake, Mt. Grace State Forest, organic Farms and more.

Two-Year Celtic Spirituality and Shamanism Training Program

Eólas * Imbas * Awen * Senchas * Dán

Students are now being accepted for a two-year Celtic religion, spirituality, mythology, folklore, and shamanism training program, based on the new book ‘Celtic Myth and Religion: A Study of Traditional Belief’ by Sharon Paice MacLeod (Sharynne MacLeod NicMhacha).

This is a distance-learning program which can be undertaken via internet and / or regular mail, and is open to all serious students of the Celtic paths and traditions. Whether you are new to the tradition or an experienced practitioner seeking to deepen your knowledge and personal practice, the program is tailored to all levels of experience.

A limited number of students will be accepted for study beginning in 2012, and applications are now being accepted for this program. We welcome you to the path and the blessings of the way!

The program will cover a wide range of subjects including:

  • The Celtic Otherworld
  • Gods and Goddesses
  • Druids, Seers, Poets and Priestesses
  • The Ritual Year
  • Celtic Shamanism
  • Ogam / Sacred Trees and Plants
  • Sacred Animals and Birds
  • Celtic Wisdom Traditions
  • Divine Ancestors
  • Welsh Legends
  • Arthurian Legends
  • Fairy Traditions
  • Folk Healers and Seers
  • Seasonal Folklore

The program is constructed as follows: After sending in the registration information and fee, students will be sent via email (or regular mail, if so requested) the first assignment. The student will read the corresponding section of the book, and then undertake assignments based on the book.

These will include meditation on and integration of the concepts explored through writing, dream and meditation work, journal practice, personal ritual, meditation and journeying, and other methods.

The student will then send in their assignment which will be read and commented upon, and returned. There may sometimes be additional assignments based on the reading, or further reflection. Once the unit is completed, the next lesson will be provided, and so forth.

Students may ask for additional reading, assignments or exercises at any time for subjects they find particularly interesting, or challenging. It is important that the student not only understand the information in each chapter, but also what it means in terms of living this path fully, integrating the knowledge, and bringing this ancient wisdom to life.

It is anticipated that the program would take most students 1 ½ to 2 years to complete. It is important to take the time needed to understand, integrate and fully experience the concepts being studied, while at the same time dedicating oneself to an ongoing experiential path (i.e. continuing to work on the lessons in a timely and ongoing manner).

The program fits well with the individual knowledge and experience of each student, and can be ‘re-taken’ by dedicated students on their own in the future if they wish to further deepen their knowledge and ability.

Those who complete the program will be eligible for advanced training towards the role of wisdom keeper or tradition bearer in the Celtic tradition (whether your calling is druid / shaman, priest / priestess, poet / fili, healer / seer, or some combination).

This deep level training consists of advanced workshops, as well as individualized study and apprenticeships (including trips to Ireland, Scotland and Wales for additional study, work with sacred sites, meeting with modern tradition bearers, and personal and group ritual practice).

To register for the program, please send the following information via email

Name, street address, phone contact information, email contact info

     3-5 paragraphs outlining the following:

     a) Your interest in the tradition and what you hope to gain from this training

     b) Your level of dedication to culturally and historically authentic training in Celtic spirituality

     c) Your hopes and aspirations for the work (personal growth, personal or small group ritual, work towards becoming a tradition bearer, etc.)

Registration fee of $225.00 (You may hold a place by sending a non-refundable deposit of $100.00; when the balance is sent the lessons can begin). Contact me for the address for registration mailing.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

I look forward to working with you and walking on this sacred path.

     Many bright blessings,
     Bendachtan Finda Fort

You are invited to attend a special workshop event and a sacred tribal gathering
     Date TBA
Senchas inna Sinnsir : The Wisdom of the Elders

Join us for this special workshop as we explore the wisdom of the ancestors, ancient teachings which preserve ancestral Celtic lore that can help guide us in sacred living, and in understanding and experiencing these ancient traditions on a daily basis. These powerful teachings are found in medieval manuscripts such as Tecosca Chormaic (‘The Teachings of Cormac mac Art’) and Tecosca Con Chulainn (‘The Teachings of Cu Chulainn), as well as the Triads of Ireland, and The Triads of Britain (Trioedd Ynys Prydain). These wisdom texts provide a code of ethical and sacred living as our ancestors understood it and passed down to us, with a focus on the sacred principles of wisdom, honour, skill, truth and courage, and the importance of maintaining balanced relationships, including those between this world and the Otherworld.

Singing at the Well of Remembering: The Wisdom of the Celtic Spiritual Tradition

In this transformative and experiential weekend we will explore the powerful spiritual traditions of the Celtic wisdom keepers. Using songs and stories, ritual and meditation, and chanting and prayer, we will awaken and deepen our connection with the Sacred Realms, which are the source of wisdom, healing, power, skill and transformation.
Through ancient portals of sacred space and time, we embark on the inner quest to learn from elders and ancestral teachers, honour the Earth, and connect with our own ancestral wisdom. In this way we may begin to 'weave the web of knowledge' and tap into the power of ancient priestesses, goddesses, poets, seers and shamans.
Experience the luminous magic of the spiral of time, as we visit the Celtic soul shrine, quest for the vessel of enlightenment, and quicken the inner flame of illumination. In reconnecting with this spiritual lineage we have access to the wisdom, power and peace of the Divine, known to the Celts as Avalon or Tir na nOg. Singing at the well of remembering:
The wisdom of the Celtic spiritual tradition

Join us for this transformative and experiential weekend as we explore the powerful spiritual traditions of the Celtic wisdom keepers. Using songs and stories, ritual and meditation, chanting and prayer, we will awaken and deepen our connection with the Sacred Realms, the source of wisdom, healing, power and transformation. Through ancient portals of sacred space and time, we embark on the inner quest to learn from elders and ancestral teachers, honor the Earth, and connect with our own ancestral spiritual heritage. In this way we may begin to 'weave the web of knowledge' and tap into the power of ancient preistesses, goddesses, poets, seers and shamans.
Prayers and invocations in Old Irish, an ancient language related to Sanskrit which can be used as a devotional language, bring us back to a place we once knew. Experience the luminous magic of the spiral of time, as we visit the Celtic soul shrine, quest for the vessel of enlightenment, and quicken the inner flame of illumination. In reconnecting with this spiritual lineage we have access to the divine wisdom, power and peace of the Otherworld, known to the Celts as Tir na nOg, Annwn and Avalon.

Open Beltaine / May Day Ritual - CELEBRATE MAY-DAY!

All are welcome to this ritual celebrating the beginning of the Bright Half of the Year, known to the ancient Celts as Beltaine and in later times as May Day. We will learn about the gods and spirits of the holiday, folklore and magical customs, and work to bring abundance and protection into our lives at this time of the Thin Veil.
In ancient times, the year was originally divided into two halves, Bright and Dark (or Summer and Winter) by two sacred feast days known as Samhain ('The End of Summer') and Beltaine (perhaps 'Bright Fires', referring to traditional fires lit on hilltops, or the Fires of Belenus, an ancient Celtic deity of healing and protection). These were points outside of space and time, potent times for ritual, magic and divination. Beltaine was a time of coming abundance, but also required the propitiation of the Spirits to provide protection. We will make traditional offerings to the Gods and Goddesses, celebrate the joy of the season to come!

Journey into the heart of the Celtic Spiritual Tradition as we explore the profound connection between this world and the Sacred Otherworld Realms, known in Ireland, Wales, and Britain as Tír na nÓg, Annwn, and Avalon. We'll learn about the Well of Wisdom, the mystic tradition of Fire in Water, and the Triple Cauldron of Healing, Nourishment, and Inspiration. We'll participate in the Rite of Awen, to ignite our powers of Poetic Inspiration, as well as powerful shape shifting ceremony to tap into the Wisdom of Nature. Our quest will take us into the wisdom tradition of the Aes Dána (People of Skill), men and women who set out on Immrama, or Otherworld Journey, into the depths of the fairy mounds to obtain their power of divine knowledge, called Awen in Wales, Imbas in early Ireland, and Eolas in Scotland. We'll explore the sacred role of the Priestesses of Avalon and the Sisterhood of Nine, and the Drudic teachings of the Sacred Grove.

The sacred apple branch was a token of passage between the worlds, a gift (or dán) given to us directly from the world of Spirit. Each person will seek out their distinctive spiritual gifts and will have the opportunity to consecrate an object of power and begin their own Crane Bag (Medicine Bundle). We'll deepen our relationship with the world of Spirit through meditation, chant, ritual, and ceremony on the lovely grounds of Rowe.Through ancient Celtic songs, prayers, and incantations we will remember the roots of our inner knowing and encourage the blossoms of our own magic branches to prosper.

Sacred Women of the Hallowed Veil: Celtic Goddesses and the Rites of Samain

At Samain the veil between the worlds is thin, and with proper ritual and guidance we may catch a glimpse of those who dwell on the other side. This workshop explores the powerful and exalted goddesses associated with the Festival of Samain in Celtic tradition.
We discuss the names and attributes of these divine women, the sacred sites and rituals associated with their worship, and the meaning of Samain in Celtic tradition. We also participate in a ceremony honouring the Celtic Goddesses of Samain.

The Power of Chant: Spiritual Pathways into Meditation, Ritual and Invocation

Join experienced musicians and spiritual practitioners Sharynne NicMhacha and Richard Taylor in this exploration of Sacred Sound and its many uses in spiritual work. The class discusses the sacred nature of sound and overtones, the use of drums and rattles, chanting and toning, and methods of incorporating the meditative and ritualized use of sound into your own spiritual practice.
Rich shares his overtone singing with us, and the group explores drumming and journeying, the invocation of deity names, and the use of chanting and rhythm for healing work, meditation and connecting with the Sacred.

Mysteries of Albion: Poets, Seers and Priestesses of the British Isles

In this workshop we explore the magical traditions of the British Isles, and meet deities, magicians and other sacred figures from Welsh, British, Scottish and Arthurian legend. We also discuss mystical traditions associated with wisdom, shapeshifting, magic, poetic inspiration and the Otherworld, in a workshop which includes meditation and a ceremony known as The Rite of Awen.
